The return of the Hanoi–Moscow route promises numerous benefits and exciting travel experiences for passengers while further strengthening the cooperation between Vietnam and Russia. Vietnam Airlines looks forward to continuing to accompany passengers on this journey. Vietnam Airlines suspended the Hanoi-Moscow route in March 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Russia remains one of Vietnam’s key tourism markets. In 2024, passenger traffic between the two countries exceeded 220,000, a 2.3-fold increase from 2023. However, this figure accounts for only 26% of the pre-pandemic level recorded in 2019, according to VOV.

The direct Hanoi-Moscow route is expected to support the recovery of the tourism sector while facilitating trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

This year, Vietnam Airlines also plans to launch or resume 15 international routes to key destinations, including Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the country's aviation market is expected to continue recovering in 2025, with an estimated growth of about 8%. However, the industry still faces challenges, including a shortage of aircraft, exacerbated by the recall of engines from Pratt & Whitney, which has grounded the A321 fleet, and high fuel prices due to global conflicts. Airlines have rented and received new aircraft to supplement their fleets. Currently, the total number of aircraft in Vietnam's fleet exceeds 200, an increase of about 10 compared to the last year.
